update---I returned the video system to PartsExpress. The screen itself was excellent, but the rest of the parts were junk. The mount fell apart on me only a few days after using it. The connectors on the tuner box were very loose. And one of the antenna rods broke off when I was raising the antenna. I went back to partsexpress to have the mount replaced because it was obviously defective. They told me that I had abused it and they will not replace it. The were very rude and had terrible customer service skills. I was forced to return it. And to top it all off, they charged me a 15% restocking fee. Even though it was defective. And their website advertised a 10% fee and only if it was not defective. I probably could have fought this and got all my money back, but I just did not have the time, nor the patience to deal with these morons. I am a manager at a RadioShack store, so I know what good customer service should be, and this was not. So I do NOT recommend shopping at Partsexpress, due to their lousy customer service and low quality products.
I have been researching a in-car computer system for a while now. I am going to complete my project in 2 stages. Stage one is installing the LCD and stage 2 is installing the computer. I bought the LCD from Partsexpress.com for $478. The package included a 6.8" Color LCD TV, a TV tuner, 2 diversity antennas, and a remote control. I can use the remote to change channels, volume, adjust picture controls, and power on/off. The remote's infrared receiver is built into the screen. The sound is outputted to my head unit via a built in FM modulator, which hooks inline with my antenna, and I just tune into 91.3 FM and anything I have ran through the tuner will play through my stereo. The picture is very sharp. The antennas work very well when still, but when you are moving the channel jumps a lot, unless you have a REALLY strong signal. My biggest dilemma was finding a space to mount the screen. I chose to remove the rear view mirror and accessory lights. I used the supplied mounting bracket and double side taped it to the metal of the headliner and kind of tucked it inside. Look at the picture to see what I mean. Then I just routed the one cable through the top of the headliner down the side and mounted the tuner box in the glove box. I routed all the cables behind the glove box. My whole objective was to NOT have to modify anything so that I could be able to put everything back to stock in a matter of minutes. I still may come up with a better way to mount it. If you think of one, feel free to E-mail me Stay tuned for the installation of my computer.
