Easy IFS Enhancements

Like most IFS suspensions, the unaltered Toyota IFS doesn't move much offroad. The easiest way to nearly double travel is to install low-profile bumpstops (seen in yellow: there are 3 per side); remove the swaybar or use swaybar disconnects; and "space the shock down" (arrow). Stock travel between bumpstops is approximately 4". With the low-profile bumpstops and spaced shock, that distance increases to nearly 7" of useable travel. By disconnecting or removing the swaybar, each front wheel can move independently, which helps offroad performance a great deal. Some say don't remove your swaybar so you can retain excellent onroad handling characteristics: that is not a concern of mine.

The stock-length shock is spaced down with extra washers in this photo, which effectively makes it a longer shock. A second bushing under the upper control arm would work as well. I did this to ensure these KYB shocks would have adequate stroke for the increased travel.
